"❤️🩹Three-year-old Maryam Ghanem, the girl the world watched being carried out of a burning apartment in Gaza City at around 4am this morning, is now lying in Al-Shifa Hospital with second-degree burns. An Israeli occupation strike hit her family’s home while she slept, and she screamed as her mother burned to death in front of her. Her father was killed at the start of the genocide. Maryam is now an orphan, and her grandmother is all she has left. In this clip, the speaker asks what she did to deserve this, and says she survived only to bear witness against a world that has watched Gaza for three years and done nothing: witness to its betrayal, and to its silence. Mother killed and child orphaned in pre-dawn strike on apartmentAround 4:10 am, an Israeli airstrike targeted an apartment near the ABu Talal intersection in the west of Gaza City.
The strike killed a mother and set the apartment on fire. Journalist Ali Al-Jafarawi who documented the scene, rescued the mother's little daughter, Maryam Ghanem, from the fire and suffered from smoke inhalation.
The child's father, Ahmed Ghanem, was killed early in the genocide. Israel's murder of her mother made her effectively one of Gaza's thousands of orphans.
