"“Mom, don’t worry, we made this as a barrier.” A displaced family in Gaza has piled sand into mounds around their tent and dug a pit behind them, and whenever the shooting starts, they climb down into it and wait. Moments into filming, the gunfire begins again, and they scramble back into the hole. Canvas stops nothing, so this is what shelter looks like now: a trench in the sand beside the place they sleep. This is daily life for Palestinians in Gaza as the Israeli occupation army closes in, pushing the Yellow Line deeper into neighbourhoods night after night and firing on the tents of families who have nowhere left to go. Today, Israeli fire on tents killed little Misk Hazem Al-Dalu in Al-Maghazi camp, and in Al-Atatra, west of Beit Lahia, occupation forces opened fire on a camp for displaced families, wounding three. A year into the ceasefire, families in Gaza are digging trenches to survive the night, and five Palestinians were killed across the Strip today, two of them children.
