"“We’re students. We came here to learn, to rebuild the country they destroyed, and they followed us here too.” An Israeli occupation drone fired on a group of students inside the campus of the Islamic University in Gaza City on Sunday morning, as they gathered near the university’s western gate between lectures. At least five students were wounded, some critically, and they were rushed to Al-Saraya field hospital and Al-Shifa. Shrapnel tore across the campus, damaging a building and the cars parked nearby, and the university suspended all classes for the day. Gaza’s Ministry of Education called it a new crime against education. The Islamic University is one of the universities the Israeli occupation bombed to rubble during the genocide, and its students have been studying among the ruins since the ceasefire, trying to finish degrees the war interrupted. In June 2025, a UN Commission of Inquiry found that Israeli attacks on educational facilities in Gaza amounted to war crimes.
