"Watch| Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes in Wadi al-Rakhim, south of Hebron, in the occupied West Bank." - Source
Since October 7, 2026 in Wadi al-Rakhim, Masafer Yatta, near as-Samuʿ, in the southern West Bank, settlers besieged the Shanaran family home, attackd the family, blockd the only access road, and reportedly attempt to set fire to the house; Israeli forces arrived but do not remove the settlers.
The house of Yousef Shanaran (يوسف شناران) is located in Wadi Rahim/Wadi al-Rakhim, in Area B near as-Samuʿ, in the southern Hebron Hills.
Timeline of the event:
On the evening of 5 October, dozens of settlers attacked his home, throwing stones at the house. According to Shanaran, they tried to set fire to the garage door and break into the house. The settlers subsequently erected a tent immediately outside/near the house, blocking the only road in and out, effectively trapping the family. The family included Yousef, his wife and four younger children aged 8–13; other reports say seven children remained inside the house. An Israeli military force arrived but did not remove the settlers or lift the siege.
An outpost had reportedly been established roughly 800 metres from the house, demolished and rebuilt several times. Shortly before the attack, an extension was established much closer to the family home.
Testimony of the Masafering movement, on October 5 2026
"Settlers established a new outpost and attacked in Wadi Rakhim near Susya. In the afternoon the settlers began constructing a building adjacent to a Palestinian family's home in Wadi Rakhim, Area B with the clear intent to block access and impose a blockade on the home. Months ago, the same settler group erected an outpost right across the other side of the valley only hundreds of meters away, using it as a launchpad for violent attacks against local residents, including arson of homes and property. In response to the frequent attacks, the military recently issued a general's order barring Israelis from entering the area where the outpost was established. Nevertheless, the order is not being enforced, and the settlers remain on site. Despite repeated demolitions by the military, the outpost is routinely rebuilt within hours. The security forces' apparent inaction regarding this group reflects a policy choice that enables ongoing violence. Although the military and police received real-time reports regarding the new construction, no forces arrived at the scene"
On October 6, settlers attacked a Palestinian dwelling in Wadi al-Rakhim with stones, causing material damage.
On October 7, dozens of settlers surrounded the house and assaulted Yousef and his wife, injuring both. Israeli soldiers subsequently arrived but did not lift the siege; ambulances were reportedly unable to reach the injured couple. Settlers were remaining around the house and even playing football alongside Israeli soldiers. The outpost erected at the site had been dismantled by the army overnight but was subsequently rebuilt nearby.
On October 15, (Day 11 of the siege), settlers from the outpost besieging the Shinran family, attacked the neighboring home of the Daghamin family. The settlers set a vehicle on fire and burned the sheep’s food supply and water tank. According to Masafering: "For 11 days the army and police have allowed settlers to impose a siege and carry out daily attacks in Area B as well as inside a closed zone to Israelis by military order. Soldiers use the closure order to expel journalists and solidarity activists but when it comes to settlers setting homes ablaze and injuring people, the soldiers choose to pray with them and hand out snacks rather than interfere".
