"The people of Umm Safa (أم صفا) are desperately calling for help. An appeal and call for action from the people and council of Umm Safa, West Bank, to the international community and to whom it may concern. Our village is under acute risk. In the last few years, we have suffered tremendously from attacks from Israeli settlers and the army. Only a year ago, settlers burned a number of the village's houses and cars, and the soldiers killed two Palestinians on the village's land. Since October 2023 the village has been subjected to daily harassment while the two main entry points have been blockaded by Israel. The rope around our neck is tightening as Israel is working toward massive land theft as we write these lines. Bulldozers, soldiers, and settlers in large numbers are razing private agricultural lands of the village on al-Ras Hill and Abu Tantur Hill, in the immediate proximity (less than 100 meters) of the Umm Safa's houses and school. The demolition works have expanded and intensified severely since Monday, September 9. Their plan is clear: to expand the illegal settlement on the lands of Umm Safa, to suffocate the village, torment its people, and to cause displacement and ethnic cleansing. We are calling everyone organizations, diplomats, activists, and every person concerned with justice - to do everything in their capacity to stop this violent operation from terrorizing our people. The livelihood, and in fact our lives, are in immediate danger, and we call for your solidarity. Please accept our utmost respect and appreciation, The people and council of Umm Safa @IntlCrimCourt @USEmbassyTA @EmbassyTLV @GerAmbTLV @EUinIsrael" - Source
Umm Safa is a village in the Ramallah district of the West Bank, facing severe land seizure by Israeli settlers and military forces. The village has experienced regular invasions and attacks, with settlers and soldiers harassing residents, cutting water supplies, and storming homes, leading to a growing humanitarian crisis.
Israeli settlers, backed by the army, have been expropriating private lands from the village, leveling and destroying agricultural areas, including olive and grape trees. Settlers brought bulldozers to prepare the land for illegal settlement expansion on Jabal al-Ras and Abu Tantur hills.
The village has been under constant attacks from settlers and the Israeli army, with settler violence intensifying, especially since 2023. Settlers have already fired live bullets at homes, disrupted daily life, and attacked the local school during school hours. Multiple Palestinian youths, including Mohammed al-Bayed and Abdul Jiwad Salah, were killed while resisting the settler invasions.
Villagers, alongside International or Jewish anti-sionist activists, protested the land seizures. These protests have been met with violent suppression by Israeli forces, using tear gas and stun grenades. Soldiers have destroyed monuments dedicated to villagers killed by the army, further intensifying tensions. - Throughout 2024, villagers have tried to resist the settler takeovers by protesting, planting trees on their land, and collaborating with activists, but their efforts have been violently suppressed by Israeli forces.
The people and council of Umm Safa are appealing to the international community for solidarity and intervention, calling for action to stop the ongoing land theft, harassment, and displacement. Residents and solidarity activists have been persistently calling for international attention and justice, documenting these ongoing attacks and human rights violations.
