Around 00:30 am, an Israeli helicopter struck the apartment of **journalist Hazem Abu Arqoub** near Bilal mosque in the center of Khan Younis, killing him and his wife. Witnesses said the apartment was on the fourth floor of a building and the bedroom was struck by one missile. On August 17, 2025, Al Jazeera published exclusive footage it obtained documenting a child being struck by what seems to be a drone airstrike while carrying a jerrycan of water. Following the publication of the footage, the child was identified by locals as 10 year-old Amna Ashraf Al-Mufti, born on July 14, 2013. Palestinian researcher, writer and poet Mosab Abu Toha found through Gaza news groups on social social media that Amna was killed on December 21, 2024 near the Kamal Adwan Hospital, 6 days before Israel attacked the hospital and abducted Dr. Hussam Anu Safiya. Israel also killed Amna's mother Najlaa and her youngest sibling Baraa on May 17, 2025. Leaving her father, Ashraf Al-Mufti with his eldest 14 year-old son Mohammad as his sole surviving family.
